Respecting the Valuable Raw Materials
Our objective is to minimise the environmental impact of the operations. Already in 1888 when the Rajamäki plant was established in a land area where clean groundwater welled from springs, environmental responsibility has had a special status for Altia. The protection of the groundwater, which is used as a raw material for alcoholic beverages, still continues to be important for us.
Barley, another essential raw material, is utilised in the Koskenkorva plant process by saving natural resources as extensively as possible. The Koskenkorva plant has close cooperation with local farmers. Contract cultivation especially ensures that the environmental impact of the growing conditions is controlled and grain varieties, which have been developed with partners for the Koskenkorva plant's process in particular, are used. This also eliminates long-distance transportation.
The environmental management system of the Koskenkorva and Rajamäki plants and in the headquarters has been certified according to the ISO 14001 standard.
Energy saving measures are a central area of development for Altia both with regard to financial responsibility and the environment. Altia has signed a voluntary energy efficiency contract of the Finnish Food and Drink Industries Federation and the State of Finland.
