Profitability Affects Environment
The objective of Altia’s strategy is that our preconditions for taking financial responsibility will improve. In addition to the owners, profitable operations are also directly reflected in the personnel and suppliers.
In the Finnish plant locations, Ilmajoki and Nurmijärvi, Altia is the largest employer of the municipalities. Production uses only Finnish barley. The Koskenkorva Plant has had financial impacts on thousands of Finnish farms through the purchasing of barley and through the animal feed created as a by-product. Altia’s operations are also reflected in the finances of the locations and their immediate surroundings through transport traffic, for example.
Manufacturing domestic grain spirit and starch from barley reduces Finland’s dependence on oil, since oil-based latexes used in the manufacturing of paper can be replaced by starch-based products. The manufacturing of domestic grain spirit and starch improves maintenance reliability and increases domestic barley refining instead of subsidised export.
