At the Heart of Barley
Altia Barley Starch is isolated from Finnish barley, developed and produced by Altia Plc.
The highly uniform quality of Altia Barley Starch makes it ideal for various industrial applications both in the food and drink industry and in the paper industry.
In the manufacturing of beer, barley starch is used as an alternative raw material. It can be added with malt directly to the mash tun and no separate cooking is necessary. It is advantageous to use as an adjunct. Handling, storing, weighing and feeding to the mash tun can be automatised easily. Barley starch increases the chemical stability of beer, giving a fresh and well-balanced flavour.
The foodstuff industry can use barley starch to manufacture sweeteners, syrups, thickeners and binders. The typical areas of utilisation are cooking and baking. Altia Barley Starch has very low protein content.
Altia Barley Starch is used in the Finnish paper industry as a coating and binding agent for fine paper grades. The starch binds the various components of paper together to improve printability and quality. In addition, barley starch is used as a corrugated board adhesive.
Altia Barley Starch contains no preservatives or additives. It is starch in its native form. Application sheets and other technical data are available upon request.
